Dr. Yonatan Calahorra
Lab Head
Yonatan received his scientific training at the Technion (with Dan Ritter) and the University of Cambridge (Sohini Kar-Narayan and Rachel Oliver groups). His interests lie at the intersection and coupling between different physical properties - leading to the lab focus on magneto-electro-mechanical smart materials.
See full CV

Yonatan is a big fan of procedural police TV shows

Maor Manevich
MSc Student

Maor joined the group in January 2024 for an MSc following his BSc graduation, in Materials engineering and Chemistry at the Technion. His interest in semiconductors led him to join the R&D team at Tower Semiconductors LTD as CMP and Thin films engineer for 3 years, and to his MSc topic.
MSc project - magneto-electro-mechanical effects in FeGa/GaN Schottky diodes.

Maor’s hobbies are riding motorcycles and reading economy and investments books.

Opal Cohen
MSc Student
Opal joined the group in 2023 as an undergraduate student and developed a pioneering magnetoelectric (ME) measurement setup. Following her graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the Technion, she continued as an MSc researcher within the group, focusing on ME antennas.

MSc project - Magnetoelectric device operation in bending mode resonance
Opal is also a member of the elite IDF program "Gvishim" (Crystals). Beyond her academic pursuits, she enjoys hiking and traveling.

Maor Manevich
MSc Student

Or joined the group in October 2023 as an MSc student after earning his BSc degree in Materials Engineering from Ben-Gurion University.
MSc project - The effect of dry etched porosity on piezoelectricity in GaN.

Outside of academics, Or enjoys discussing and reading about history, geopolitics, and philosophy, and follows his favorite football club, FC Barcelona.

Basma Haj-Yahya
MSc Student

MSc project - fabrication and geometry design of the interface in magnetoelectric composites to improve their performance

Beyond her academic work, Basma enjoys reading books, playing Candy Crush, and watching funny videos.

Dr. Nivedita L. Raveendran
Postdoctoral Researcher

Research project - design of magnetostrictive materials

Shaul Pagis-Sharon
MSc Student

Shaul joined the group in August 2021. He is a 3rd year undergraduate student in the department of Materials Engineering in the Technion, under the Technion Excellence program. Shaul joined the group on August 2021 to conduct a research project studying mechanoluminescence InGaN light emitting diode structures.
Outside of work, he likes to learn interesting yet utterly useless historical facts and then bring them up in conversations

Noor Abu-Ahmed
Lab Engineer / Researcher
Noor joined the group in March 2021. She holds a BSc and MSc in Mat. Sci. from the Technion.

Research project - effects of porosity on GaN piezoelectricity and conductivity

Apart from reading, Noor likes to visit and explore new places and cooking for family and friends
